Jane Tranter is a significant figure in British television. She joined BBC radio as a secretary in the drama department in 1985. In 1986 she moved into television, becoming an assistant floor manager on "EastEnders" (1985) and "Bergerac" (1981). She also served as a script editor on "Casualty" (1986). In 1995 she joined Carlton Television as an executive producer. After two years away from the BBC, she returned to the BBC to become Head of Drama Serials and from 2000 until 2006 she was Controller of Drama Commissioning. She was then made into Controller of BBC Fiction, overseeing Drama Commissioning, Comedy Commissioning, Programme Acquisition and BBC Films.
